Chapter 17 Secretary’s Report — Minutes of May 2 Meeting.
Meeting called to order at 6:55 by George Douglas.
Smoky Mountain Airshow photos by Karen Meyer shown while George described the event. Among many highlights was the RV-10 project brought by Albert Robinson, which proved to be a crowd favorite, alongside Sam Robinson’s completed and stunning example of the RV-10.
Over 220,000 persons attended the airshow over the 3-day span.
Mr. Douglas recognized the BBQ chef, Sam Jones, from Monroe County.
Gordon Meyer provided a Young Eagles report regarding the event to be held May 14th. Eighty one signed up to date, including 25 from Cancelled RAM event. Discussion of EAA Youth Protection Training requirements.
Mark Scheuer brief the assembly on the Wings Event to be held at DKX, and Remote Area Medical event on June 4th Mr. Douglas provided the main program, EAA Leadership Training that he attended at Spruce Creek Community, hosted by EAA Chapter 288. EAA has 190,000 members, with 890 chapters that have 41,000 local members. EAA loses an average of 24 chapters a year. The training is intended to help local chapters to thrive through recruiting. Publicity and mentoring new members.
Other business: iPad and ForeFlight discounts, Jules Bernard if offering to sell 600’ of ¾” Spruce cap strip, and his Cessna 150.
June meeting will be builders. No meeting in July and August will be dope and fabric.
Meeting adjourned 8:30 PM, forty persons attended. Delicious BBQ sandwiches were consumed.
