ADS-B & Me
June 14, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Carpenter Avionics, an award-winning aviation services company based in the Nashville area, kicks off this weekend ADS-B & Me!, a multi-city FAA Safety Team (FAAST) briefing event series that helps prepare general aviation aircraft owners and operators to take advantage of NextGen Aviation, an important enhancement to our national airspace now operational.
The first ADS-B & Me event will take place at the airport in Rome, Georgia, on Saturday, April 23. Six other events are now scheduled across middle and eastern Tennessee in Smyrna, Nashville, Sewanee, Chattanooga, Knoxville and Morristown in May and June. The series will continue in many other cities across the Mid-South in Tennessee and adjacent states for the foreseeable future. Attendance is free.
Details for each event’s location and date are available on the Carpenter Avionics website and on the FAA Safety Team website at www.FAASafety.gov . Cities and dates are listed below. Because this is a FAAST Briefing, pilots earn FAA Wings Program Credit and aircraft mechanics earn FAA AMT Credit by attending this event.
“The Federal Aviation Administration has mandated that aircraft operating in U.S. airspace must be equipped with ADS-B by January 1, 2020,” said Mark Lee, President of Carpenter Avionics. “This mandate was first announced in 2010, though so far, only about 25% of general aviation aircraft in the U.S. are ADS-B equipped. The ADS-B & Me! NextGen Learning Series is intended to help aircraft owners and operators determine how they can confidently move forward with ADS-B equipage.”
Attendees at each ADS-B & Me! Event will learn what’s behind ADS-B – why it matters and how it works. They will learn about ADS-B benefits. The session also addresses various myths about the topic. A major focus of the session is to cover practical things aircraft owners and operators should consider as they think about how to equip their aircraft to comply with the FAA Mandate for ADS-B equipage. January 1, 2020, will be here before you know it!
Here is how attendees rated a preview version of this presentation delivered at the Tennessee Mid-South Aviation Maintenance Conference in March 2016 in Nashville:
- Overall session content: 9.1 out of 10.
- Overall, presenter: 9.2 out of 10.
- Overall, “I would recommend this session to other aircraft owners & operators”: 9.4 out of 10.
Experts from Carpenter Avionics, a multi-year, national award-winning avionics service center from Music City, will drive the presentation. Events in some cities will feature additional speakers. This educational session will cover a broad array of types of equipment, brands, and more with a focus on actionable ADS-B information for aircraft operators. “ADS-B” refers to Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast, an important technology that is helping to transform national and international air traffic control from ground-based systems to satellite-based systems. ADS-B is an important part of the FAA’s NextGen Aviation Program, which aligns with aviation modernization programs worldwide to increase aviation safety, efficiency, capacity, and enable many other benefits.
