SUMMARY:Fly by Night - AOPA Air Safety Institute FREE Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Join AOPA ASI At Clayton Homes\, Thursday Oct. 12\, 2017 \nAll nights are not created equal. Especially in light aircraft\, flying after dark comes with real trade-offs. Smooth air\, better performance\, and stunning views are great—but they’re offset by trickier landings\, invisible terrain\, and limited emergency options. So what’s the key to staying safe after sundown? \nASI’s new seminar looks at night flying from a risk management perspective. Using decades of accident data\, we identify common problems and recommend the best ways to avoid them. Along the way\, we talk about: \n\nRequirements for pilots and aircraft\nUnique flight planning considerations\nWhy all nights are not created equal\nThings that can take you by surprise

SUMMARY:Rough River (2i3) Fly-out (Cancelled due to Weather)
DESCRIPTION:NOTICE:  We are expecting stormy weather for this date and have decided to cancel for now.\n\nThis event is an opportunity to fly\, or drive\, to a great destination\, have a great lunch and great conversation.  It is open to anyone\, Chapter 17 members and others. It is about 200 miles from Knoxville in west central Ky. Camping is optional. But highly recommended. \n-detailed info can be accessed on: parks.ky.gov.  Phone number is 800-325-1713 or 270-257-2311. \n-last we heard\,  Lodge was full\, or nearly full\,  but it might be worth a call….cancellations happen. George Douglas just booked a room\, likely became available due to a cancellation. \n-Due to dam repair\, all park camping is closed to all camping EXCEPT fly in tent camping on the airfield\, adjacent to the former FBO.  There are nice showers and bathrooms available in the old FBO building. The lobby is air conditioned and comfortable if we want to meet. There are no provisions available for motorhomes. If you have a truck camper that occupies one parking space\, this is probably acceptable. Drive in and tent camp is also OK. Call to be sure. THERE ARE NO ELECTRIC\, SEWER\, OR WATER FACILITIES AVAILABLE. \n-there are some tie downs and chocks\, bring your tie downs and gust locks ‘just in case’. \n-the lodge/restaurant is only a short walk from the air strip:  a courtesy van is also available. \n-overnight tent camping at the FBO cost $10.  Drive in tent campers that occupy one parking space are welcome. \n-if the weather on the 24th is bad\, Sunday the 25th of June is the only ‘rain date’. This will be noted on the EAA17.org site above. \n-any change to schedule will be posted on the above EAA17.org site.  Please check before you depart. \n-brunch on Saturday the 24th is targeted for noon\, CDT\, and costs about $10. \n(Editors note:  brunch buffet is awesome.) Breakfast and evening meals also available\, but generally not needed if you bring snacks. Ice is available at the lodge.  Drinking is not encouraged\, but it is ‘don’t ask\, don’t tell’. \n-there is stuff to do.  Miniature golf\, Frisbee golf\, excellent hiking trails.  Hangar flying. \n-there is no Wi-Fi at the FBO\, but is good at the lodge/restaurant. \n-several of us will come early and/or stay late. We are sorta thinking arrive Thursday\, fly home Sunday.  The more the merrier. \n-what does Chapter17 provide?  New York strong coffee at sunrise and on. \nA SIMILAR INFO POST WILL BE SENT SOON ON OSHKOSH CHAPTER CAMPING. \nTHANKS!  READ THE WEBSITE. \nTom and Jerry
