Information for Young Eagles Parents
Before you register we suggest you read the Information For Parents.
To register for a scheduled Young Eagles event, please email the following information to our Young Eagles Chairman :
-Full Names of each Young Eagle participant
-Birth date of each Young Eagle (Must be between 8 and 17 years old on the day of the flight.)
-Name of parent / guardian
-Address, phone number and email contact for parent / guardian.
After you register, we will confirm your flight by email or phone. Flights are not automatic, as they are subject to aircraft and pilot availability.
Also, bad weather will cause cancellation of the flight. We can not notify everyone of a cancellation, so if in doubt, show up at the airport. You can also try to contact the Young Eagles chairperson. A good indicator of cancellation would be steady rain or high winds.

Information for our Young Eagles volunteers
Or, how to have incredible fun repaying your aviation debt!
(Information courtesy of F. Lee Erickson, past Young Eagles Chairperson)
Young Eagles is the EAA program where we, as participants, get to repay our aviation debt and have immeasurable fun doing it. All of us had that first moment that inspired us to fly. The visit to the airport as a kid. The pilot who first took us flying. The first time we banked an aircraft under someone else's watchful hand. These are experiences we had and a little debt we accumulated along the way, because of someone else's kindness.
Chapter 17 would like to help you repay that debt through the Young Eagles program. You do not have to fly to be a great help, although pilots are always in demand. Whether you are a veteran volunteer or a first time participant, we can find something for you to do that you will enjoy!
A successful Young Eagles event happens when we divide the work load, so that everyone can do their part and feel good about the job they did. Learning a new way to share your aviation knowledge is part of the fun.
Please consider how you might fill one of the responsibilities below, and then speak up and offer to help. The Chapter leadership team is stronger than ever and we want our service to youth to sparkle as well!
Young Eagle Staff Functions before the event day:
* Guest Coordinator…Ensure our Young Eagles participants are notified.
* Insurance
Coordinator…Send insurance form to EAA two weeks prior.
* Airport Liaison…Coordinate with a contact person at the host airport.
Young Eagle Staff Functions on the event day:
* Registration Coordinator…Have registration materials and Young
Eagle certificates. Bring and setup registration table.
* Registration staff…Help
with registration before ground school starts.
* Ground School
Coordinator…Bring GS materials and prepare classroom. May also serve as
ground school instructor.
* Ground School
Instructor… Present ground school.
* Crowd Control
Coordinator…Directs crowd control staff to: Erect barriers to direct and
control access to flight line. Lead Young Eagles from ground school to preflight
demonstration and to queuing for flights.
* Crowd
control staff
* Pilot
Coordinator…Brief pilots on particular procedures to be followed.
Ensure that, before each flight, each pilot completes the bottom portion of the Young Eagles registration form, and signs the “Self Certification” statement that they meet all EAA Young Eagle pilot requirements.
* Young Eagle Pilots…give our guests the best flight possible!
These are the parts you can play in the incredible fun of repaying the aviation debt we all owe to those who went before us!
Young Eagles Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):
Q: Can I deduct expenses incurred while flying Young Eagles?
A: Yes. The IRS has ruled that volunteer Young Eagle Pilots can deduct direct, out-of-pocket expenses incurred in direct connection with and solely attributed to the Program. If these conditions are met, volunteers can deduct direct out-of-pocket expenses such as (1) fuel and oil directly consumed by the aircraft in the demonstration flight, not to exceed 200 miles; (2) fuel and oil to another airport within 50 miles to meet a young person; (3) transportation, not to exceed 30 miles one way, to and from the airport; (4) the rental charge for a bus or van to bring a group of young people to the airport; (5) the rental expense of an airplane used only for the Program; (6) postage for mailing registration records to the Young Eagles Office; (7) extra liability insurance purchased solely for flights for the program; (8) landing and tiedown fees at a non-home-based airport; (9) aeronautical education materials; (10) meals for the young person (but not the volunteer); and (11) film and development of pictures for the young person. Indirect expenses, such as hangar fees and annuals, are not considered deductible. Please maintain reliable records (receipts or a contemporaneous diary) of the out-of-pocket expenses. For the purposes of computing the expense of transporting the volunteer and/or young person to and from the airport in a passenger automobile, a standard mileage rate can be used instead of operating expenses.

| About Young Eagles |
| The EAA Young Eagles program was launched in 1992 to give interested young people, ages 8 - 17, an opportunity to go flying in a general aviation airplane. These flights are offered free of charge and are made possible through the generosity of EAA member volunteers. |
